THE CW NETWORK AND FOX TELEVISION STATIONS ANNOUNCE NEW AFFILIATION AGREEMENT FOR WPWR-TV IN CHICAGO

The CW Affiliation in Chicago to Transfer to Fox from

Tribune Broadcasting Beginning Sept. 1, 2016

NEW YORK, N.Y. AND CHICAGO, ILL. – May 23, 2016 –  The CW Network has signed an affiliation agreement with the Fox Television Station’s Chicago station WPWR-TV, to take effect Sept. 1, 2016.

Running the Network in pattern, with almost no preemptions, WPWR-TV will become The CW affiliate in Chicago, serving as the local home to the Network’s diverse array of critically acclaimed primetime programming and distinct brand identity. WGN-TV will become an independent station in Chicago.

“We are very excited to partner with WPWR, our new CW home in Chicago, where Chicagoans can continue to enjoy The CW's popular, critically-acclaimed primetime programming,” said Chris Brooks, Senior Vice President, Network Distribution, The CW. “The CW has continued to gain momentum over the past few seasons with award-winning series like JANE THE VIRGIN and CRAZY EX-GIRLFRIEND, and its most-watched series ever in THE FLASH, and our new relationship with WPWR is a terrific opportunity to continue that growing momentum with viewers in Chicago.”

Frank Cicha, Senior Vice President of Programming of FOX Television Stations, stated, “We love high quality, big budget first-run prime and we love having more original programming. But most of all, we love moving to The CW the same time as Supergirl.”
