"SUB-PRIME" (TV-14, D) (HDTV)
ACTOR/DIRECTOR PETER BOGDANOVICH GUEST STARS AS BOBETTE TRIES TO KEEP CONTROL IN HER CORNER OF THE LOAN SHARK WORLD -- After finding possible proof that he's not related to the only family he's ever known, Morgan (Jeff Hephner) investigates his secret past further. Beautiful grad student Julia Miller (Marsha Thomason) believes her research confirms that Morgan isn't related to either of his siblings, Brandy (Katie Lowes) or Cooper (Jay Ferguson). Brandy remains consistently frustrated by her husband Mike's (Joe Peracchio) quick-money schemes, and Mike makes a desperate choice to pay off his debts which will ripple through the Buffkin clan. Morgan is perplexed when his mother Bobette (Laurie Metcalf) completely denies Julia's evidence about his kinship. Further, Morgan still feels duty-bound to help Bobette run their payday loan business, so he confronts thuggish new rival Manny Mamayo (Peter Navy Tuiasosopo, "Speed Racer") whose shady dealings are uncovered by inept lawyer Franklin Cardoza (Gene Ornelas, "In Plain Sight"). Soon, Morgan has words with Julia's jealous lab partner Damon (Chad Brummett, "3:10 to Yuma") and tracks down third-rate ventriloquist Van Dorn (guest star Kevin Weisman, "Alias"). But it's Dr. Bowers (special guest star Peter Bogdanovich, "The Sopranos") who just might hold the key to unlocking Morgan's heritage once and for all. Nick Searcy, Gary Farmer, Joseph Negus, Michael Sheets, and Chris Browning also star. Alik Sakharov directed the second episode written by executive producers Diane Frolov & Andrew Schneider (#102).
