JOSH SCHWARTZ (“THE O.C.”) BRINGS HIS LATEST TEEN DRAMA, “GOSSIP GIRL,” TO THE CW — Filmed entirely in New York and based on the popular series of young-adult novels by Cecily von Ziegesar, “Gossip Girl” revolves around the privileged prep school teens on Manhattan's Upper East Side and the anonymous blogger, Gossip Girl, who provides them with the latest gossip about their exclusive circle. In the series opener, Gossip Girl is busy spreading the news that “it girl” Serena van der Woodsen (Blake Lively) has returned to Manhattan after a mysterious and self-imposed exile to boarding school. Serena's best friend, Blair Waldorf (Leighton Meester), has conflicted feelings about her friend's return since she has enjoyed being the Queen Bee during Serena's absence and might not be ready to relinquish her new position on the social ladder, not to mention the fact that she has always suspected there may be unspoken feelings between Serena and her longtime boyfriend, Nate (Chace Crawford). Penn Badgley, Taylor Momsen, Ed Westwick, Kelly Rutherford and Matthew Settle also star. Mark Piznarski directed the pilot written by executive producers Josh Schwartz & Stephanie Savage (#100).

SEASON PREMIERE FINDS THE CHARACTERS FOUR YEARS IN THE FUTURE — Four years after the season four finale, Tree Hill is a new place. Lucas (Chad Michael Murray) is a struggling writer who is about to embark on a new coaching career with Skills (Antwon Tanner). Peyton (Hilarie Burton) is at the beginning of a budding music venture, while Brooke's (Sophia Bush) fashion line is at a crossroads. Meanwhile, Nathan (James Lafferty) and Haley (Bethany Joy Galeotti) are young parents trying to find their way. Much has changed in four years, but in many ways, the journey is just beginning. KEVIN SMITH (“CLERKS”) DIRECTS THIS SUPERNATURAL COMEDY ABOUT A SLACKER WHOSE PARENTS SOLD HIS SOUL TO THE DEVIL — On his twenty-first birthday, Sam Oliver (Bret Harrison, “The Loop,” “Grounded For Life”) discovers his parents sold his soul to the devil (Ray Wise, “24,” “Twin Peaks”) before he was born, and he must now serve as the devil's personal bounty hunter, catching escaped souls and sending them back to Hell. A freaked-out Sam turns to his friends Sock (Tyler Labine, “Invasion”) and Ben (Rick Gonzalez, “Illegal Tender,” “Coach Carter”) for help and the three slackers, whose previous excitement consisted of long nights at their job at The Work Bench, decide to embrace this new destiny and set off in pursuit of their first escaped soul, an arsonist who has returned in the form of a fireman. In between fighting the demon, Sam contemplates asking his co-worker and longtime friend Andi (Missy Peregrym, “Heroes”) on a date. Valarie Rae Miller, Donavan Stinson and Andrew Airlie also star. HIGH HEELS MEET HOT WHEELS — All the girls face off in the tractor race of a lifetime. A fun day at the swimming hole takes a dramatic turn when Stacey plants a seed of doubt. The animosity between Christa and Brooke reaches a new level, and a special date with Matt becomes a family affair (#103).

Meanwhile, there's drama during the corn harvesting challenge when one girl plays dirty in hopes of finishing first. A romantic date with Matt makes one girl feel like a princess (#104).�

“Kara” (TV-PG, V) (HDTV)
CLARK MEETS HIS COUSIN KARA KENT AND VISITS JOR-EL — Clark (Tom Welling) and Lois (Erica Durance) discover Kara's (Laura Vandervoort) spaceship but before they can open it, Kara appears and knocks Lois out. Clark is shocked after Kara tells him she is there to protect baby Kal-El. Despite Kara's appearance, a despondent Clark decides that without Lana (Kristin Kreuk) there is nothing keeping him in Smallville, and heads to the Fortress of Solitude to begin his training as a superhero. However, Jor-El tells him Kara's father - Zor-El, who is Jor-El's brother - is evil and Kara is dangerous. Therefore, Clark must stay in Smallville to find out why she came to Earth. Lex (Michael Rosenbaum) makes a stunning discovery regarding Lana and Project 33.1. Allison Mack, Aaron Ashmore and John Glover also star. DEAN MEETS MINI-DEAN — Dean (Jensen Ackles) pressures Sam (Jared Padalecki) into visiting Cicero, Indiana, so he can visit an old flame named Lisa (guest star Cindy Sampson), he had a tryst nine years ago. However, Dean is stunned when he meets not only Lisa again, but also her 8-year old son Ben (guest star Nicholas Elias), who bears a striking resemblance to him. However, Ben soon goes missing and Sam and Dean discover that a Changeling, a demonic parasite, is snatching kids from the small town and assuming their form. Meanwhile, Ruby (Katie Cassidy) makes contact with Sam and reveals some startling information about his mom. Phil Sgriccia directed the episode written by Sera Gamble (#302).

CHRIS JOINS THE SCHOOL NEWSPAPER — With no extracurricular activities to his name, Chris (Tyler James Williams) decides to join the writing staff of the school newspaper. However, when his writing skills fail to impress, Chris concocts a fictitious story about a serial killer loose on the streets of Bed-Stuy, which eventually finds its way to the local Brooklyn paper and causes quite a panic within the community. Terry Crews, Tichina Arnold, Tequan Richmond, Imani Hakim and Vincent Martella also star. The episode was directed by Debbie Allen and written by Rodney Barnes (#049).

LIL KIM GUEST STARS AS HERSELF— When Malik (Hosea Chanchez) makes a politically incorrect statement during a press interview, it creates a media firestorm and makes him the whipping boy for a national cartoonist. Later, Malik attempts to make amends with the cartoonist but things get out of hand when Malik ends up punching him. Malik tries to find his mom Tasha (Wendy Raquel Robinson) to help the situation but she is off trying to sign a big client. Meanwhile, overwhelmed with guilt for lying to Kelly (Brittany Daniel) for his steroid use, Jason (Coby Bell) confesses to Derwin (Pooch Hall). Tia Mowry also stars. ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY — Jay Manuel meets the models and introduces them to their new “green” form of transportation. The models move into their environmentally friendly Los Angeles mansion and get a lesson of style from J.Alexander. Two girls start an early feud that erupts, and one model has a hard time relating to the others. Later, the models participate in a style challenge and perform a photo shoot of the negative effects of smoking. The judges send one model home. The special guest is photographer Mike Rosenthal (#902).

CHRIS AND GREG BECOME ROOMMATES — With Greg's (Vincent Martella) father out of town, Chris (Tyler James Williams) invites Greg to stay at his house for the week. However, Chris' attitude changes after Rochelle (Tichina Arnold) and the rest of his family start waiting on Greg hand and foot and Chris becomes an afterthought. Meanwhile, Julius (Terry Crews), who is making extra cash by driving taxis in his spare time, picks up a fugitive who wants Julius to drive him all the way to Las Vegas. Tequan Richmond and Imani Hakim also star. The episode was directed by Keith Truesdell and written by Frank Sebastiano (#052).

INTO THE WOODS — When the high school conducts career aptitude testing, Raja (Adhir Kalyan) is told he should become a doctor, but Justin (Dan Byrd) shows no aptitude for any particular career. Franny (Amy Pietz) and Gary (Scott Patterson) put so much pressure on Justin to choose a career path, that he escapes to the home of his buddy Dooley (Adam Rose), where he notices that Dooley's father is a stay-at-home-dad. Justin's announcement that he has found his calling and plans to stay home and nurture his future family convinces Gary that a “manly” hunting trip with the boys is in order. Unfortunately, Raja's fascination with Gary's crossbow results in an embarrassing accident. Meanwhile, the normally close mother/daughter relationship between Franny and Claire (Lindsey Shaw) turns combative and leads to a confrontation in a local nightclub. Daisy Mayer directed the episode written by Robia Rashid (#111).

RICK FOX, TAVIS SMILEY AND STEVIE WILLIAMS GUEST STAR IN CAMEO ROLES — Tasha (Wendy Raquel Robinson) loses her cool during a press conference while addressing the allegations surrounding Malik's (Hosea Chanchez) suspension from the team. In the wake of the fallout, Tasha's business begins to suffer and Irv (guest star P.J. Byrne) offers to help Malik and save Tasha's business by buying her out, but she refuses. Later, Tasha brokers a meeting between Malik and Chris Clemons (guest star Daryl “Chill” Mitchell) to air their differences on The Tavis Smiley Show. Malik, still upset over the events of the past several days, tells Tasha she is fired. Meanwhile, Kelly's (Brittany Daniel) anger over Jason's (Coby Bell) steroid use reached a boiling point when the Sabers do a random drug test and Kelly must try and bail him out. TRYING TO LET GO —Maya (Golden Brooks) tries to avoid calls from her publisher when she experiences writer's block and is unable to complete her third book. Later, Maya learns that her pregnancy is at risk and the doctors instruct her to stay off her feet as much as possible, but she doesn't listen. Meanwhile, Joan (Tracee Ellis Ross) is having a hard time renting her apartment to Lynn (Persia White) and William (Reggie Hayes), and Monica (Keesha Sharp) start to discover differences in their relationship.
