ROBERT BERENS

Executive Producer and Co-Showrunner of “Kung Fu”

Robert “Bobo” Berens is an executive producer and co-showrunner of The CW’s “Kung Fu.”

After graduating from Sarah Lawrence College, Berens moved to New York City and got a job at Dissent Magazine, a socialist journal.  Berens worked at Dissent for years, as a copy editor, office manager, circulation director, fundraiser and writer. The itch to write creatively led him to a job at Animation Collective, a New York-based animation studio. There, he wrote or co-wrote over twenty episodes of children’s entertainment for networks like NickToons and The Cartoon Network, in addition to writing several pilots for the company. But his dream was writing dramatic live action TV. He moved to Los Angeles.  After a few years of temping at studios by day and speccing by night, he landed a job as a writer’s assistant on the Sarah Michelle Gellar vehicle “Ringer” for The CW.  By season’s end, he had written and produced three episodes for the show.

Berens work brought him to the attention of Jeremy Carver and Andrew Dabb at “Supernatural,” who hired him as a staff writer. Berens wrote 26 episodes of the show, including the show’s planted spinoff “Wayward Sisters.” Simultaneously with “Supernatural,” Berens served as a consulting producer on “Doom Patrol” for DCU/HBO MAX.

Berens is also a recent graduate of the WGA’s Showrunners Training Program. He lives in Silverlake with his boyfriend Spencer and their cat, Neville the Devil.
