Archie Andrews in “Riverdale”


KJ Apa stars as Archie Andrews, an all-American boy trying to balance the ups and downs of high school, in The CW’s drama “Riverdale.”


Upcoming, Apa will be seen starring in the pandemic thriller “Songbird,” alongside Sofia Carson. The film was directed by Adam Mason and produced by Michael Bay, and will be released by STX later this year.


Apa was most recently seen starring as Jeremy Camp in the Erwin Brother’s “I Still Believe,” opposite Britt Robertson, Shania Twain and Gary Sinise. The biopic of the Christian music star marks Apa’s first leading role in a studio film and chronicles Camp’s journey of love and loss. For his performance, Apa received a People’s Choice nomination in the category of Drama Movie Star. The film also received a nomination in the category of Drama movie.  


In his role as Archie Andrews on “Riverdale,” Apa has garnered a Teen Choice Award nomination in the category of Choice Breakout TV Star as well as a Saturn Award. The show has also received a People’s Choice Award, two Teen Choice Awards for Choice Breakout TV Show and Choice TV Show, as well as a Kids Choice Award.


Last year, Apa starred in William Bindley’s “The Last Summer.” The film received a Teen Choice Award nomination in the category of Choice Summer Movie. Apa was also seen in George Tillman Jr.’s “The Hate U Give,” opposite Amandla Stenberg, Regina Hall and Anthony Mackie. The film received a Teen Choice Award in the Choice Drama Movie category as well as a BET’s Best Movie Award nomination. Prior, Apa starred alongside Josh Gad, Dennis Quaid, Luke Kirby and Brit Robertson in “A Dog’s Purpose.”


Originally from New Zealand, Apa made his small screen debut as ‘Kane Jenkins’ in New Zealand’s prime-time soap opera SHORTLAND STREET, alongside Thomasin McKenzie. Set at the Auckland City hospital, the show follows the complicated personal and professional lives of its staff, family and friends. Apa also appeared in the sci-fi mini-series THE CUL DE SAC.


In addition to his work on screen, Apa is a talented musician who plays guitar and piano. At the age of 14, he recorded his first album and has performed at Coachella, Teen Vogue’s Young Hollywood party and on-screen in “Riverdale” and “I Still Believe.”
