James Olsen/Guardian in “Supergirl”
Mehcad Brooks stars in the The CW series, “Supergirl,” as photographer James Olsen. This season, James decides that he can no longer be just a sidekick and becomes the vigilante Guardian.
Brooks is known for his role in the series “Necessary Roughness,” in which he portrayed Terrence “TK” King, the star wide receiver for the Hawks who is became notorious for his frequent fumbles -- not to mention his regular run-ins with the law.
Audiences also know Brooks as Benedict ‘Eggs’ Talley from Alan Ball’s series “True Blood,” opposite Anna Paquin and Steven Moyer.
In August 2005, Brooks was featured in Daily Variety’s “Ten Young Actors to Watch.” He was nominated for an Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series, Image Award, and took home the SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series for the series “Desperate Housewives,” and his portrayal of Alfre Woodard’s son, Matthew Applewhite.
In 2008, Chris Carter cast Brooks as the lead in the dramatic feature “Fencewalker.” His performance in the film is garnering much buzz and excitement throughout the industry. His additional film credits include the Paul Haggis film “In the Valley of Elah” opposite Tommy Lee Jones and Charlize Theron, and the Jerry Bruckheimer film for Disney, “Glory Road,” which debuted at #1 at the box-office. “Glory Road,” directed by James Gartner and written by Chris Cleveland, tells the story of the 1966 college basketball team who was the first all-black starting line-up to win the NCAA national championship, and was led by Coach Don Haskins. Brooks portrays Harry Flournoy, one of the star players of the team. Brooks was also seen in the short film “Wildlife,” which was released in 2017.
An athlete himself, Brooks grew up in Austin, Texas where he was an All-State basketball player in addition to playing football and baseball. He was accepted into Yale University, but instead attended the University of Southern California to study at their prestigious School of Cinema-Television. He also modeled during his high school and college years. His first breaks came as guest-starring roles on “Malcolm in the Middle,” “Boston Public,” “One on One” and “Cold Case.” He also starred in the Disney television movie, “Tiger Cruise,” ABC’s legal drama “The Deep End” as well as the docu-drama “My Generation.
Brooks was also one of the faces of the notorious Calvin Klein underwear advertisements seen worldwide.
